Get Involved !

We simply can't afford to sit back and expect the world to green itself, we need to get involved, we need to toss a bit of our time and effort into helping make the world a better place to live. The intent here is to provide a place to announce coordinated efforts for greening our planet, and to acknowledge those that are making a difference.

Sustainability Corps monthly meetings

The first Wednesday of each month, interested students, faculty, staff, and members from the Honolulu community come together to discuss campus sustainability issues, what they are doing, and ideas for new projects. Meetings also feature one or more interesting presentations by leaders in green innovation from the campus community, the state, and abroad. To learn more about the Corps, click here.

Manoa Makeover Project video on YouTube

Getting involved doesn't always mean getting dirty, if that doesn't appeal to you how about making a few simple changes in your office? We've put together a few single page flyers on energy saving through the use of intelligent power strips and also through turning off screen savers. YES...a screen saver prevents the energy star capability on many new monitors from taking effect. When a screen saver is running, so is the monitor running full blast....get rid of the screen savers and watch your monitor's power usage plummet.

Lastly, the easiest way to make a difference is to just turn off your lights when you don't need them. The MEPA re-lamping project is leaving behind door hang tags as a reminder to people to turn off their lights. Want a hang tag? Email chee@hawaii.edu and we'll arrange to get you a couple.
