Influenza H1N1 Update
December 10, 2009
Aloha to UH Mānoa students, staff and faculty:
The number of ILI* cases is still low for the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Last week the University Health Services saw 6 students with H1N1 symptoms.
To date the campus has received 550 doses of H1N1 vaccine. The vaccine has been administered to students in our medical programs as well as staff in the health services. The additional doses will be administered to student in high-risk categories that include those under 25 years old with diabetes or asthma conditions. The University Health Service (UHS) has developed a email for students in the high priority group as well as an email notification about the availability of the H1N1 vaccine.
The UHS staff are prepared to administer additional doses once they arrive from the Hawaii Department of Health. Institutions of higher education across the country are reporting a decrease in the number of ILI cases.
All of the campus offices continue to offer hand-sanitizers and advice on prevention measures for staff, faculty and students.
Information about the H1N1 virus in colleges and universities is available at the American College Health Association website on Pandemic Influenza Surveillance.
*Influenza-like Illness (ILI) = fever (> 100° F)* AND cough and/or sore throat (in the absence of a known cause other than influenza)
