Budget Workgroup Charge
Mahalo for your willingness to serve on the Budget Workgroup.
The budget situation for UH Mānoa (and most of the world) remains uncertain, so I would appreciate advice on allocation changes that likely will be needed in the near future. The Process Committee is working on ideas regarding the best way to include and inform the campus about budget allocation planning and decisions. I believe this budget workgroup needs to start discussions now, because it is difficult for any university to quickly implement budget changes and, simultaneously, meet the needs of current students or those planning to attend UH Mānoa. For those reasons, I need input now, particularly if the financial situation during this current year further deteriorates.
I appreciate your time and energy on this effort—in times of budget constraints, there are also opportunities that emerge, such as recruiting great Hawaiʻi students, moving forward on issues that we know should be addressed, strengthening our justification for UH Mānoa's having the flexibility and nimbleness it needs to accomplish changes in the best way, and more. Times of budget constraints are clearly challenging for our campus community, so it is critically important to engage and inform the campus about both the "what and why" actions are taken. Transparency is the goal of any such process, so I appreciate your assistance in accomplishing that goal.
