Cooperative Education (Co-op)
Co-op is a nation-wide, work experience program that formally integrates students academic and career interests with productive work experiences. The Co-op partnership offers employers an opportunity to recruit talented, trainable prospective employees and gives students an opportunity to gain paid, career related experience.
Internships
Internships are short term, paid, project based opportunities that offer experiential learning in student’s field of interest. Internships offer your organization students with academic knowledge to assist in projects or assignments to enhance your organizational goals.

- Cooperative education (Co-op) is a three-part working relationship in which a college or a university joins with an employer in a structured, academic relationship that benefits the student, the employer and the institution of higher learning.
- Access to talented and motivated UHM students
- The satisfaction of mentoring future professionals through on-the job training.
- Reduce future recruitment and training costs by developing a pool of applicants that are available to convert to full-time employment.

What kind of jobs do Co-op students do?
- Co-op participants have acquired communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills that are marketable for wide array of Co-op positions.
- Co-op participants have worked as auditors, engineers, journalists, software testers, buyers, managers, environmental assistants, teachers, and market researchers to name only a portion of our partnerships.
How much do Co-op students usually get paid?
- Co-op students are capable of handling relatively high-level tasks and they average about $13.00 per hour. The general range is between $10.00-18.00 depending on the organization and the responsibilities assigned.
