41st Annual Tester Symposium!


The 41st Annual Albert J. Tester Symposium took place last weekend. It was a fun three days of excellent student talks, bookended by fantastic lectures from Dolph Schluter (this year's keynote speaker), and followed by an awards banquet at the beautiful Waikiki Aquarium.

Undergrad Helps Discover New Bacterium on Way to Marine Biology Degree!


Vanessa K. Zapeda, who earned her Marine Biology degree in 2014, played an instrumental role in the discovery of the bacterium Terasakiispira papahanumokuakeensis in a pond in the Pearl and Hermes Atoll.

Join the Pani ka Puka Restoration Efforts on December 12!

1,000 people are needed to form a chain that will pass along rocks and coral to fix up the He'eia Fishpond.

On December 12th from 9am-11am there will be a massive and historic endeavor taken up by the people in the Pani Ka Puka Restoration effort.

Marine Option Program Students Aid in Discovery of Shipwreck

Research ship stumbles on shipwreck while diving in Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.

Six Marine Option Program students were aboard the Hi’ialakai in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands when a three-person dive team found the Mission San Miguel, an oil tanker that disappeared 60 years ago and has remained untouched since.
