Academic Affairs Functions (Undergraduate and Graduate levels)
- Develops, interprets, communicates and implements University and A&S academic policies and procedures as related to admission, retention and graduation of students.
- Provides guidance on articulation issues
- Oversees A&S curriculum and program requirements.
- Provides leadership for the faculty and administration in curricular innovation across the colleges

- Oversees special programs, i.e., Honors, Interdisciplinary Studies, Student Athletic Academic Services, etc.
Student Academic Services Functions (Undergraduate only)
- Provide administrative oversight, including budget, personnel, , action plans, capital or other purchases, travel requests and similar functions for CASSAS general advising and special programs.
- Oversees the planning, development, and implementation of programs that support educational experiences that enrich the academic environment, enhance student development, and promote student progress toward degree attainment.
- Oversees budget and seeks funding to support advising functions/programs
- Reviews and makes decisions for the colleges on exceptions to university or college policies & procedures.
- Handles student problems/complaints.
- Oversees admission of 2nd degree applicants, readmission of dismissed students, and academic actions and graduation actions for A&S
- Hires, supervises faculty specialist personnel
- Development and implementation of A&S components of the STAR journey/degree audit
- Works with internal constituent groups that affect advising functions (Admissions & Records, Gen Ed, other colleges/advising units.
- Works with external constituent groups that impact advising of undergraduates (community colleges, high schools)
- Provide leadership in advancing advising and developing new programs to address the changing needs of students and the colleges
- Initiate, develop and implement special fund or grant requests and projects.
- Oversees assessment studies on A&S advising needs and performance (e.g., student retention and graduation rates, achievement of advising learning outcomes, etc.)
- Develops and coordinates strategic/long-range programmatic and facility planning
- Provides leadership for divisional priorities supporting student learning, engaging a diverse student body and workforce and enhancing the utilization of technology
- Conducts research regarding best practices and grant opportunities

ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES
This office will provide staff support for the College's responsibilities in budget preparation and execution, financial management, purchasing, personnel management, and other miscellaneous administrative functions. This office will serve as the liaison with the appropriate campus and system offices as well as the external agencies.
BUDGET PREPARATION AND EXECUTION
- Assist the Executive Dean and Academic Deans in developing and reviewing budget requests.
- Coordinate the preparation of the College's biennial and supplemental budget requests.
- Advises and provide data to enable the Deans to make sound resource allocation decisions.
- Execute budgets approved by the Deans.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND PROCUREMENT
- Serve as the fiscal officer for funds and accounts* established for the College. Reviews, evaluates, and approves all fiscal transactions such as purchases, payments, fund transfers, etc.
- Manage accounting and fiscal records to ensure integrity of accounts.
- Prepare financial statements as required.
- Assists departments in maintaining accurate accountability for equipment.
PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT**
- Administer classification and compensation, appointments, leaves, benefits, etc. for the College.
- Interpret and administer provisions of collective bargaining agreements.
- Manage labor relations.
- In conjunction with Deans and Chairs, coordinate recruitment efforts fill positions in accordance with staffing needs.
- Lead development of training programs for College personnel.
- Manage centralized personnel records for the College.

Alumni & Community Relations Office
1The Alumni & Community Relations Office is responsible for establishing and nurturing partnerships between the College of Arts & Sciences and its key constituencies, such as alumni and donors, in order to create a vibrant liberal arts academic environment. Effectively and consistently, the office:
- Promotes the mission of the College of Arts & Sciences
- Enhances the reputation of the College of Arts & Sciences
- Articulates the vision of the College of Arts & Sciences
The Alumni & Community Relations Office plays a leadership role in creating/initiating communications (e.g. printed, electronic, website, personal), furthering its alumni program, expanding community partnerships, and, often, overseeing programs that may result (e.g. private fund administration at the college level such as scholarships). Given the size of the College of Arts & Sciences, the office coordinates and collaborates most closely with divisional and other functional unit leaders. It also works with other university offices when necessary and to assure compliance with policies and procedures, and with the UH Foundation where development activities are involved. The office serves as a central resource for news and happenings in the College of Arts & Sciences.
The Alumni & Community Relations Office reports directly to the Arts & Sciences Executive Dean.

RESEARCH AND GRADUATE EDUCATION
RESEARCH
- Provide leadership and coordination of the College's research programs.
- Identify potential extramural funding sources and establish the necessary relationships for successful research programs. Funding sources may include federal agencies, state governments, universities, foreign governments, private companies, etc.
- Work with faculty, chairs, and academic and functional deans to identify faculty areas of interest and expertise and assist faculty in obtaining funding.
- Coordinate and assist departments and/or faculty in developing interdisciplinary research programs.
- Sponsor workshops, such as grant writing, report writing, contract and grant administration, etc. to assist faculty in developing their research programs.
GRADUATE EDUCATION
- Provides leadership and coordination of the College's graduate students.
- Recommends stipend level for GAs in the College based upon Peer and Benchmark institutions and other competitive factors.
- Repository for College database on GAs including graduation rates, number of Master and PhD level students, honors received, etc. by department.
- Coordinates scholarship, internship and fellowship information for A&S graduate students.
- Provides support to GSO representatives including elections, dissemination of information, etc.
