Academic Affairs and Student Academic Services
Within the context of the college mission, the Office of Academic Affairs and Student Academic Services (OAASAS) is responsible for providing leadership in 1) the coordination and innovation of the A&S curriculum and academic policies and 2) in sustaining and creating an undergraduate experience for the 5,000 to 7,000 A&S students that integrates the curricular and co-curricular, is coherent and meaningful, and fosters the student's development to succeed in the 21st century. The OAASAS is also responsible for administering college-wide programs, including administrative and support services.
Academic Affairs Functions (Undergraduate and Graduate levels)
- Oversees A&S curriculum and program requirements
- Provides leadership for the faculty and administration in curricular innovation across the college
- Develops, interprets, communicates and implements University and A&S academic policies and procedures as related to admission, retention and graduation of students
- Provides guidance on articulation issues
- A&S Faculty Governance Bodies (Executive Committee, Educational Planning & Policy Committee, Program & Curriculum Committee)

- facilitates PCC
- Represents A&S on University and system committees (Academic Policy Committee, university council on articulation, etc.)
- Works with department chairs and program directors in delivering quality course offerings
- Interfaces with external accreditation and internal review boards
- Oversees assessment and faculty evaluations
- Oversees A&S sections of the catalog
- Provides leadership in advancing the curriculum and developing new academic programs to address the changing needs of students and society
- Provides leadership in course scheduling for the academic year
- Conducts assessment studies on A&S needs and performance (e.g., student retention and graduation rates, course taking patterns, etc.)
- Oversees special, cross A&S department/division curricular programs
Student Academic Services Functions (Undergraduate only)
- Oversees the planning, development, and implementation of programs that support educational experiences that enrich the academic environment, enhance student educational planning and development, and promote student progress toward degree attainment
- Provide leadership in advancing advising and developing new programs to address the changing needs of students and the colleges
- Provides administrative oversight, including budget, personnel, action plans, capital or other purchases, travel requests and similar functions for CASSAS general advising and special programs
- Oversees budget and seeks funding to support advising functions/programs
- Reviews and makes decisions for the college on exceptions to university or college policies & procedures
- Handles student problems/complaints
- Oversees admission of 2nd degree applicants, readmission of dismissed students, and academic actions and graduation actions for A&S
- Hires, supervises faculty specialist personnel
- Supports the development and implementation of A&S components of the STAR journey/degree audit
- Works with internal constituent groups that affect advising functions (Admissions & Records, Gen Ed, other colleges/advising units.
- Works with external constituent groups that impact advising of undergraduates (community colleges, high schools)
- Initiates, develops and implements special fund or grant requests and projects
- Oversees assessment studies on A&S advising needs and performance (e.g., student retention and graduation rates, achievement of advising learning outcomes, etc.)
- Develops and coordinates strategic/long-range programmatic and facility planning
- Provides leadership for divisional priorities supporting student learning, engaging a diverse student body and workforce and enhancing the utilization of technology
- Supports research regarding best practices and grant opportunities
