We are pleased to announce a series of events around Hock E Aye VI Edgar Heap of Birds’s visit to our campus co-sponsored by American Studies and Art & Art history. Edgar Heap of Birds is a world-renowned Cheyenne and Arapaho artist and Professor of Native American Studies at the University of Oklahoma. His public projects and print-based work rooted in practices of Cheyenne spirituality and Indigenous ways of seeing have dealt with topics such as settler colonialism, Indigenous genocide, and critiques of the state. His artwork at the Denver Art Museum on the theme of home was also evoked as the symbolic theme around this years American Studies Association conference in November.
Please save the date for a welcome gathering for Edgar at Noelle Kahanu’s home (thank you Noelle!) on Thursday, October 21st at 5:30 p.m.
We will also be holding a print workshop and talk story where folks can see Edgar’s studio process on Friday, October 22nd 1-4 p.m. and a campus lecture on Tuesday, October 25th at 5 p.m.
