Ruth O. Bingham, PhD
Ruth O. Bingham, PhDDepartment Chair & Faculty Specialist
Raised in Kailua, Ruth lived in South America, Europe and the mainland before returning to Hawai’i to raise a family. She has five degrees (2 BAs, 2 MAs, and a PhD) in musicology and German, from UH-Manoa and Cornell University in New York.

She loves working in higher ed and helping students!

Kay Hamada
Kay HamadaFaculty Specialist
Kay grew up on the island of Hawaiʻi. She earned her BA in Journalism and Mass Communication from Drake University in Iowa. After teaching English in China for a year, Kay returned to the Midwest to earn her MA in English from Western Illinois University. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Communication and Information Sciences with a focus in Social Informatics at UH Manoa.

In her spare time Kay likes to go on walks (#Fitbit) and swim at Magic Island. She is also a SuperWhoLock fan.

Nanette Miles
Nanette MilesJunior Specialist
Nanette was born and raised in Hawai’i, with the exception of attending Kindergarten in Maryland. She has completed her AA in Liberal Arts from Kapi’olani Community College and transferred to UH Manoa to complete her BA in Psychology with a Certificate in Ethnic Studies and then to Chaminade University to earn a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology degree.

Nanette likes to travel and has been on a road trip from West Virginia to California; San Francisco; Holland and Germany.

Tracy Chagami
Tracy ChagamiAcademic Advisor
Tracy was born and raised in Hawaii and grew up in MIlilani. Right after graduating from high school, she went on to complete her AA in Liberal Arts from Kap’iolani Community College and then transferred to UH West Oahu to earn her BA in Social Sciences (with a Concentration in Psychology). Soon after that, she completed a Master of Education in Educational Technology degree at UH Manoa.

She loves doing outdoorsy things. In the past she has gone hiking at midnight in Alaska, played with a Beluga whale, walked on a glacier, and petted/fed deer at Nara Park (Japan). In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her nieces and nephews and go on adventures with her dog.

Allison Yap
Allison YapAcademic Advisor
Allison is the designated Study Abroad Advisor for students in AH/LLL. She was born and raised in Hawaii and earned a B.A. in Women’s Studies and a M.A. in Political Science from UH Manoa. In her final semester as an undergraduate, she received a UHM Presidential Scholarship, which she used to study abroad in London, England.

Allison loves to travel and to encourage UHM students to Study Abroad!

Reynold was born and raised on the island of Oahu. He has earned his BA in Second Language Studies and Japanese from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. His intends to come back to Manoa to pursue a Masters Degree and live in Japan. His hobbies include hanging out with his friends, playing video games, and travelling.

Jacqueline is from Kapolei, Hawaii. She is currently pursuing a B.S. in Biology and hopes to attend medical school. She loves spending time with her three dogs and is an animal lover in general. Her hobbies include watching Netflix, and YouTube videos and reading and writing various works across different genres.
Juliana

Juliana is from Yigo, Guam. She is currently pursuing a B.A in Psychology and a minor in Biology. Juliana plans to attend medical school and become a pediatrician. She hopes to also become a part of the organization “Doctors without Borders”. Her main goal in life is to give back to her family, her island and it’s people, and the community in general. Her hobbies include spending time with family and friends, reading, volunteering, and listening to music while scrolling through social media.  
Mara

Mara is originally from Fiji. She moved to Hawaii in 2014 and is currently attending UH Manoa pursuing B.A.s in Pacific Island Studies and Journalism. Mara plans to get her Masters in Pacific Island Studies and hopes to return home to teach at the University of the South Pacific. In her free time, she likes to go on adventures, read fantasy novels, binge watch TV shows, and discover new places to eat.

Mika was born and raised in San Francisco, CA. She is pursuing a B.A. in English in Creative Writing. Her hobbies include reading books, manga, reddit nosleep, watching anime, drawing, playing video games on the PS4 and PC, and eating sweets. She would one day like to publish novels and short stories.
Sam C
Sam CPeer Advisor
Sam is from Waipahu, Hawaii and a graduate from Maryknoll High School. She is currently attending UH Manoa, pursuing a BBA degree in Accounting. Sam plans to get a master’s degree at Shidler College of Business, as well as become a Certified Public Accountant. One day, she would like to have her own Taxing Service company, while traveling the world! Her hobbies include collecting nail polishes, calligraphy, drawing, and playing the guitar. Fun fact: Sam went from binge reading books at Borders to binge watching TV shows on Netflix.

Carolina was born, raised and educated on the Island of O’ahu. She is an alumnus of both Hawai’i Loa College and Hawai’i Pacific University and earned her BA in Liberal Arts. Her past careers have been in customer service in the hotel and travel tourism industry; private corporate administration; and military service in the US Navy and US Coast Guard.
Carolina loves traveling and hopes to visit those places still on her dream list-to-see.
Heather
HeatherOperations Manager
Heather was born and raised on Oahu. She received her AA in Liberal Arts from Kapiolani Community College and her BA in American Studies from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Growing up on the Windward side of Oahu, Heather developed an admiration for country living which includes a love of animals and being surrounded by lots of greenery. Her future aspirations are to go back to school to pursue her Masters Degree and to do more traveling.

Her quote of inspiration: Cat ladies are not crazy, they are ingenious fanatics.

Abigail was born and raised in San Diego, CA and graduated from Eastlake High School. She is attending UH Manoa in order to receive her BA in Second Language Studies. Her future goal is to teach English in Japan, South Korea, and Thailand. She would like to be able to visit every country in East Asia at least once. Her hobbies include hanging out with friends, bowling, and listening to music.

Abigail loves Mexican food and knows how to make her own Carne Asada burritos.

Alex
AlexStudent Assistant
Alex was born and raised on the island of Maui. She graduated from Maui High School. She is currently majoring in Business at Shidler College of Business. Her plans for the future is to earn an undergraduate degree.

On her free time, she likes to read, go to the beach, binge watch Netflix shows, and go hiking. An interesting facts about her is that she can sing the ABC’s backwards.

Megan is from Los Angeles, California. She is majoring in Entrepreneurship and has plans to one day own her own health food business.

Megan’s hobbies include going to the beach, surfing, photography, visiting museums, and being a dog mom.

Ross
RossStudent Assistant
Born and raised on Oahu, Ross went to Kahuku High and Intermediate School. He lived in Japan for the past 5 years and came back to pursue a 2nd bachelor’s degree in Japanese. He wants to continue on to the graduate program in Japanese and eventually teach Japaneses at the university level. His hobbies are reading, watching movies, playing games, and spending time with his family.
